Curriculum --> PDHPE

PD/H/PE is a subject primarily concerned with developing the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will empower students to adopt a healthy lifestyle. At Marist College Kogarah, the students are continually challenged in PD/H/PE to value their health and make it a priority in their lives. With health issues becoming increasingly important in Australia, PD/H/PE provides students with the opportunity to enhance the quality of their lives.

PD/H/PE focuses on some key issues that will provide the basis for healthy decisions. These issues include;

  • Physical Activity
  • Nutrition Diet and Weight Control
  • Drug Use
  • Relationships
  • Stages of Growth and Development
  • Sexuality
  • Self Esteem, Communication and Peer Pressure

These issues are examined and analysed through communicating, interacting, problem solving, critical thinking and moving, with an aim of making decisions, which will enhance health.This is achieved via a variety of PDHPE courses offered from Year 7 to Year 12. They include :

  • Compulsory PDHPE for Years 7-10
  • Year 9 and Year 10 Physical Activity and Sports Studies
  • Year 11 and Year 12  2 unit PDHPE  and
  • Year 11 and Year12 Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation

    Finally, you often hear people say how important many aspects of life are, family, religion, money, work but all these aspects of life will suffer if health is not made a priority. It is our wish that students not simply learn the material in PD/H/PE but live it.
